The Full Story

When Pedro Abad was a child, he had a great aunt who was deaf. He recalls visiting her and feeling deeply sad and frustrated because he couldn’t communicate with her the way he did with the rest of his family. He would try to speak, but she couldn’t understand him, and he didn’t know how to connect with her. There was always a wall between them, even though he cared about her very much. That experience left a lasting impression on Pedro. As he grew older, he began to reflect on what it must be like to live in a world where most people can’t understand you. He imagined how difficult it must be for children with hearing disabilities, especially when it comes to learning, growing, and forming relationships.

This personal experience became one of the main inspirations behind the creation of the Inclusive Growth Platform (IGP), a project Pedro helped develop. Along with his team, he wanted to build something that would break down the barriers that isolate deaf and hard-of-hearing children; not only within families but also in schools and communities. IGP offers parents, caregivers, and educators accessible tools and meaningful support to ensure that every child with a hearing disability has the opportunity to learn, grow, and be understood. Because no child should feel alone or excluded simply because they communicate in a different way.
